Avalanche
The largest map in the game is right here. Avalance is perfect for flying in Hornets, using Scorpions and Mongoose's. And, because it is very large, it's great for large games of team slayer or slayer. Also, this is sniper heaven and machine gun mania here. Because players can look out over the map while in the building, they can set up a machine gun nest, or crouch down and start sniping away. The best tactic for this match is to get your hands on a machine gun or a sniper rifle.

Valhalla
Valhalla is somewhat like the Halo Combat Evolved map entitled Blood Gulch. This map is great for team deathmatch and capture the flag, mainly because the two buildings serve as each team's base. That's where the flags are located, and it perfect fore hiding out and sniping. Because the map is not very large, it isn't intended for large vehciles such as Wraith's and Scorpioin's. The best tactic for this map is Sniping because there is a long line of sight in this map.

Snowbound
Snowbound is a rather small map, but it is great for close combat. If you are skilled with shotguns, duel wielding, or any type of short/medium range combat weapon, this is the place for you. The buildings offer good hiding spots and places where you can just hunker down and hold down the fort for a while. The best tactic for this map is definately small weapons such as needlers, duel-wield weapons, and shotguns.
Sandtrap
Sandtrap is one of the largest maps on Halo 3. It features everything needed for sucess; Open areas, buildings, high spots, many weapons and vehicles, shadows and many other places to hide. If you are a sniper, elephants and platforms are great places to set up a sniping post, and wraith mortars can reach anywhere on this map, making it difficult for you to come out in the open if there is a player in the Wraith. The best tactic for this map is either using vehicles or sniping.
