Mark VI

The Mark VI is the standard Spartan armor permutation. It is the first default armor in Halo 3.

The CQB armor is the second default armor for Spartans in Halo 3.

Scout

Here is how to unlock the Scout armor:
Head: Unlock "Used Car Salesman" achievement
Chest: Unlock "Too Close To The Sun" achievement
Shoulders: Unlock "Mongoose Mowdown" achievement

E.V.A.

Here is how to unlock the EVA armor:
Head: Beat campaign on Normal
Shoulers: Beat The Ark on Normal
Chest: Beat Tsavo Highway on Normal

E.O.D.

Here is how to unlock the E.O.D. armor
Helmet: Beat campaign on Legendary
Shoulders: Beat The Ark on Legendary
Chest: Beat Tsavo Highway on Legendary

Hayabusa

Here is how to unlock the Hayabusa armor:
Helmet:  Get all 13 Campaign Skulls (Silver and Gold)
Shoulders:  Get 9 Gold Skulls
Chest:  Get 6 Gold Skulls

Katana

Chest: Get all skulls and get 1000 gamerscore on Halo 3

ODST

Here is how to unlock the ODST helmet:
Head: Unlock the "Spartan Graduate" achievement

Security

Here is how to unlock the Security armor:
Head: Get 1000 gamerscore on Halo 3
Shoulders: Get 750 gamerscore on Halo 3

Rogue

Head: Unlock the "Spartan Officer" achievement

Mark V

Here is how to unlock the Mark V helmet:
Head:  Unlock the "UNSC Spartan" achievement

Recon

Here is how to get the Recon armor:
Head:  1st Method) You must send a video to Bungie of you doing something that is deserving of it. If they decide you deserve Recon armor, they will send it to you.  2nd Method) Complete all 7 of the Vidmaster Challenges.  There are 4 in Halo 3 and 3 in ODST.
Chest:  1st Method) You must send a video to Bungie of you doing something that is deserving of it. If they decide you deserve Recon armor, they will send it to you.  2nd Method) Complete all 7 of the Vidmaster Challenges.  There are 4 in Halo 3 and 3 in ODST.

Bungie

The only two ways to get the flaming chest piece are to become an employee of Bunige Studios or have been the winner of the Sarkathalon.  The winner was Pope Rex.  The only person to have it and not be an employee OR win the Sarcathalon is the person who gave Bungie the idea for the Radar Jammer.

Chest: Beat Tsavo Highway on Heroic or Legendary

Head: Unlock "Overkill" Achievement
Chest: Unlock "Triple Kill" Achievement
Shoulders:  Unlocked by default after Title Update 2
